The image of the cake, created by John Derry, is drawn using contour lines and hatching. You can tell he used contour lines because the actual picture is drawn, and and it is an outlined picture. He also used hatching to create the shadows of the cake on the outside and the inside. The picture doesn't really have implied lines because the artist drew everything that needed to be seen, he didn't leave the viewer to fill in any parts of the image with their mind. The artist did use the value scale because you can see he made areas darker by hatching and most of the image was left alone and was very light.
