This image of a Mayan calender can be classified under  the need for art to record and commemorate.  It is a piece that helped the Mayans keep track of and record time.  Aside from being a calender, this piece is also a work of art.  It includes many intricate details which tells the viewer there was a lot of time and effort put into making it.

    yes and I would also say this fits under the category of extraordinary versions of everyday objects too.
